The Power Of Negative Environments

Optimal Rating

Extreme Alt.

The interaction between environment and our psychology is profound.

Our surroundings, from the towns and cities we choose to live in to the climate and population density of where we live, to the smallest spaces, such as the rooms we live and work in all have a huge influence on our emotions, thoughts, and behaviours.

Perhaps even more so; our sense of who we, what we are capable of doing, how we feel about ourselves and again our emotions, thoughts and behaviours are significantly affected by the people we hang out with, the social media platforms we engage with and the T.V shows and movies we watch. These are all external inputs (environments) that are manipulating and influencing how we see ourselves.

Take a look at the image.

The smaller black circle looks misshapen. But it isn’t, it’s actually a perfect circle. The ‘environment’ the larger circle with lines and black centre creates an optical illusion that causes us to see the circle as misshapen.

It’s incredibly similar with ourselves, we can literally ‘miss-see’ who we really are and what we are capable of doing, based on the environments we put ourselves (or have found ourselves) in.

To become optimal, requires seeking out optimal environments. Environments that support, encourage and inspire us to be all that we can be.
